TEOFS - 4 - The Pa Che System

 A PERSONAL COMPASS

The Pa Che system uses the later trigrams to determine the nine directions and each individual's life will match one of these directions. The charts in this chapter enable the reader to determine his or her own favourable directions from the nine variations of the Pa Che compass and to identify the directions where good or malign spirits have influence. Once you have calculated the number of your compass there are tables which list the colours most appropriate to your nature and the elements which can cause harmony or chaos in your life.
Pa Che feng shui is divided into two groups known as the eastern life and the western life. In an eastern life southern, southeastern, east and northern directions bring good fortune. In a western life western, north-west, south-west and north-west bring good fortune. If, after making the calculations below, you discover that you have an eastern life, live in an eastern house. If your main door faces to the east you will have the most auspicious forecast, however, if these directions clash the harmony of your life is disupted.

DETERMINING YOUR OWN PA CHE COMPASS

In the following system, each one of the nine directions which corresponds to a trigram and to an element is given a number. These numbers, which are said to have been revealed through the mysterious forces of Heaven are contained in the Book of River - Lo and the Plan of the Yellow River. Although there are only eight trigrams, there are nine directions, since the centre is considered one of the directions. In this system K'un and K'en are repeated so that they align with the centre which corresponds to number 5. If after making your calculations you end up with the number 5, you will discover from the illustrated compass below that the centre does not have its own particular forecast although it is an essential direction. A man who calculates the number 5 should follow the reading that corresponds to K'un, number 2, and a woman should follow the reading which corresponds to Ken, number 8.

HOW TO FIND YOUR DIRECTIONAL NUMBER

CALCULATIONS FOR MEN

Subtract your year of birth from 100 and divide by nine. The remainder is your number. If there is no remainder you must take the number 9.
Example: For a man born in 1960
100 - 60 = 40 divided by 9 = 4 with a remainder of 4
The reading is contained in the compass surrounding number 4.
Example: For a man born in 1955
100 - 55 = 45 divided by 9 = 5.

Since there is no remainder the correct reading is found in the compass surrounding number 9.

CALCULATIONS FOR WOMEN

Subtract 4 from your year of birth and divide by nine. The remainder is your number. If there is no remainder you must take the number 9.
Example: For a woman born in 1960
60 - 4 = 56 divided by 9 = 6 with a remainder of 2.
The correct reading is found in the compass surrounding number 2.
Example: For a woman born in 1949
49 - 4 = 45 divided by 9 = 5
The correct reading is found in the compass surrounding number 9.

Not only does the compass gives the reading for the trigram associated with your life, but each segment or direction of the compass represents a trigram. There are always four positive directions and four negative directions that apply to each individual. These different readings can help to explain the varying fortunes of a group of people who live and work in the same place.

Once you have determined the number of your compass, its associated elements, trigram directions and influences, it is also possible to learn which elements and their corresponding colours work in harmony with your life and which bring misfortune. There is also a guide to help you determine auspicious and inauspicious directions, particularly when you are choosing a house.

HARMONIOUS AND DESTRUCTIVE ELEMENTS AND THEIR ASSOCIATED COLOURS

Wood (green) is in harmony with fire (red)
Fire (red) is in harmony with earth (yellow)
Earth (yellow) is in harmony with gold (white)
Gold (white) is in harmony with water (black)

Once you have found a house suitable for your feng shui reading, make sure that the position of the front door does not weaken your reading. You can check that the position of the house and the position of the front door are aligned by using your appropriate model of the Pa Che feng shui compass created above. Stand at the centre of the house and hold the north point of the compass to the direction of the North Pole. If your feng shui falls into the eastern life group, the main door of your house should be at the north, east, south-east or south. If your feng shui falls into the western life group the main door of your house should be at the west, north-west, south-west or north-east.
